There’s always drama at St Leonards!

Two Junior productions are staged each year, giving children a chance to perform in front of parents and fellow pupils. Senior pupils can participate in two annual productions which are usually staged in a professional theatre. They also have the chance to be a part of the world’s largest arts festival, the Edinburgh Fringe.

Both Junior and Senior pupils have enjoyed tremendous success in Trinity Guildhall exams which they are given the chance to take. In addition, co-curricular dance classes are organised by the Drama department and are available to Junior and Senior pupils.
 Every two years a trip either to Italy (Venice and Verona) or New York is organised, giving senior pupils the chance to experience live shows and take part in workshops, learning about all elements of the performing arts.

Past productions have included: Grease, Guys and Dolls, Alice in Wonderland, Twelfth Night, Tilton Road and Tilton Rise (original scripts written by our Director of Drama, Ms Nickie McQuade-Powell), and Dr Faustus.

"We are really lucky at St Leonards because of the big part Drama plays in our lives. We have the option of an after-school activity, and two productions are staged in a professional theatre every year. This offers us a chance to spread our wings and work in a professional environment with lighting, sound and set design all produced by pupils involved in the productions. We perform publicly to an audience of locals, tourists and, of course, parents and fellow pupils. I don't think any of us could wish for better exposure to theatre and performance than we have at St Leonards. Students are encouraged to take risks and be creative on and off stage, and are given all the skills necessary to pursue a career or life-long involvement in the dramatic arts."
